  1. From Kate Higgins:

“Indy exam Part 1: If a nation has 5 m people & a multi-billlion pound oil/gas reserve, it is a) very rich or b) very rich?”

  2. Fuhrer Cameron signs formal declaration of surrender ! Why cant he now emulate his namesake and head off to his bunker with a pill.

  3. Not sure what I think. Over at Better Nation they think it’s a great credit to both parties, here you think it’s pish. I’m more Private Eye: Dave “you think you’ve won one over on me, how stupid is that. Fuck this pen doesn’t work?”

    • Alex – ignore the spin in the media, and just look at their faces. Who’s smiling? That tells you all you need to know about who has “won” here.

(Although actually, it’s US who’ve won – we now get to debate what sort of country we want Scotland to be and then vote on it.)

      • On a serious note Alex Salmond is smiling because he has stood firm on his principle and the UK Government has had to acknowledge those for the first time in history (and the UK Government hopes the only time) the only problem is he hasn’t been very effective in 1) communicating that 2) as a consequence of 1) he hasn’t really taken the Scottish people along with him.

What do I think these principles are? That Scotland is a nation like any other, hence his insistence that it had to be Cameron not Moore that he dealt with. This principle in my mind is also what has guided him on the referendum and on the issue of devo max. He believes it’s right that the Scottish people should be the ones who decide whether or not they stay inside the union and on what terms. The main importance of this I think is that it is a body blow to the Scottish cringe, and it is that cringe that Scottish unionists rely on most and work hardest on maintaining in order to keep Scotland docile. There’s absolutely no guarantee that the referendum will be won but it’s important to stick to principles, but the SNP Government needs to take the country along with them not just the SNP membership.

  4. Love the strategically placed electoral map of Scotland in the background.
Alex: “”That’ll do Donkey, That’ll do”"

  5. ” Here’s one of us side by side …. and I’m thinking ‘is he thinking what I’m thinking’ …. that sovereign independence and confederal union is the win-win of best together? “
