Fuzzy Friday 3

Zombielab-eyes

ARE YOU AWAKE? WAKE UP?!
It seems that Trigger are having a Zombie Lab. Trigger is a producer-led arts organisation run by Angie Bual & Suzy Glass. They do lots of cool inspiring stuff ‘(We produce creative happenings ‘). We liked the look of this Zonbie-do which starts 30 January and runs to 3 February.

It’s all about, er, ‘zombies and consciousness’ with talks by Zombie geeks …scientists, philosophers and artists alongside live theatrical interventions. Get the programme here.

SKYE MAPPING
We love the look of American artist / songwriter J. Maizlish Mole who’s been working with Atlas Arts to make a loving portrayal of Portree.

Atlas describe it as: ‘The maps are objects of art but also playful navigation tools for the Isle of Skye as a whole, and the town of Portree in particular. By incorporating elements of local oral knowledge and culture into the map, the curators and artist hope to set a benchmark for how stunning locations can be brought to life through the eyes of people who live there and visit.”

On January 31st the maps will be unveiled across information panels in Portree. Copies will also be available for hotels and tourist businesses to offer to locals and visitors as of April. ATLAS Arts will also be producing limited edition prints.

Artist J. Maizlish Mole said:

Each of these drawings is a memory map in the borrowed form of a road map. They plot out the subjective shape of a travelled-through, marvelled-at, remembered landscape.

Here’s a bit of one of them:

ROBOTS, AGEING, TABLE-TOPS
The Buzzcut Manipulate Festival launches on February 3rd at Summerhall, Edinburgh.

“Join us to learn about the potential future of humans alongside robots…. meditate on the politics of growing older and in our lively and welcoming bar experience the intimacy of a one-to-one table top performance provided by solo artists from five different decades.”

(no, we don’t really know what that means either). It’s all part of manipulate visual theatre festival – an annual festival of innovative international theatre and film presented by Puppet Animation Scotland.

Here’s a sneak-peak about the Manipulate Festival

WEE DUB FESTIVAL
Edinburgh is bleak, dark, and wet this time of year?  Wrong.  The city is bathed with warm Jamaican sunshine all weekend for the 3rd Wee Dub Festival.  Reggae, dub, and ska for all the family at various locations across the city.  Even the website exudes Caribbean warmth.
CONFLUX PRESENTS PITCH
A quarterly gathering of minds and ideas at Edinburgh’s Summerhall Arts Centre for anyone interested in physical performance.  The theme this month is cross-artform work.  And its free.

BORGEN
The second series of the masterful Danish political thriller comes to a climax this weekend on the telly.  Why not watch the final two episodes with other Borgen-heads at Edinburgh’s Filmhouse?  Includes …wait for it… a Q&A session afterwards with the Danish PM herself, Birgitte Nyborg (aka actress Sidse Babett Knutdsen).

GIE’s PEACE
Okay okay okay, we said Fuzzy Friday was non-political, so we lied a bit. But this is going to be HUGE, so stick it in your calendar now.  Go to the Scrap Trident Weekend of Protest and Action website to download posters and leaflets now or pick up from Peace and Justice Centre (Edinburgh).

Save the Date. 13-15 April. Spread the word. Lets get rid of nuclear weapons once and for all.
