Closer and Closer

In December 2013 we launched Closer, our quarterly magazine. We launched the third issue today and you can buy a print copy here online or get it from dozens for outlets around the country. Or download a PDF of it here. It has essays by Tessa Ransford, Cat Boyd and Jennifer Morrison, Laura Eaton-Lewis, Lesley Riddoch, Alison Johnstone, Abi Cornwall, Lauren Currie and many more. It has ranting from Vonny Moyes and drawing from Rosie Balyuzi.

Closer was inspired by the work of the Finnish futures thinker Vuokko Jarva writing about a form of ‘Closer’ democracy that is more peer-to-peer and more hands on. We’re getting closer to a democracy in Scotland day by day.

The first issues focused on innovation, the second on participation, the third on women and independence.

We hope you’ll buy a copy (from the Yes Tardis on Leith walk, Aye Aye Books in the CCA in Glasgow, Yes HQ Hope Street, Word Power Books or one of the Yes Shops or Women for Indy or RIC stalls) but, as time is against us – here are all three issues for free…

Jeremy Warner one of the Telegraph’s main economic commentators lets the cat out of the bag:

“Westminster must immediately abandon all this nonsense about not allowing Scotland to use the pound. On the right terms, monetary union between Scotland and the rest of the UK is perfectly feasible. Wider monetary union in Europe has manifestly failed but few would challenge its efficacy between, say, Germany and Austria. Scotland and the rest of the UK are similarly integrated, economically and contractually. Yet there has to be a price. Scotland must surrender sovereignty to keep the pound, as Europe has in keeping the euro.”
