Welcome Michelle Mone, Lord Hague, failed Liberals, spads and donors: the patronage class. You can lose your seat at an election by over ten thousand votes and get knighted for it in the Motherfucker of all Parliaments. This is Ultimo Democracy, and nobody’s going to reform it.

In the list of 40 new peers most were former MPs rejected by voters only a few months ago in May, now transposed into a job for life. In other words this isn’t just an affront to democracy it’s a corrective to democracy for the political class.

Liberals like Malcolm Bruce (rejected by Gordon and resurrected by Cameron), Alan Beith  and Ming the Meaningless join Better Together chief Alistair Darling getting payback for services rendered.

Stronger Together.

CNahP0BWwAAIOYtThe failed Lib Dems have a ratio of 11 peers to just 8 MPs. They now have 112 peers which is 14 times more Lords than their Commons representation.  That’s British democracy, vote people out and they’ll pop-up a few months later in the feudal bit of your legislature you have no say in.

Other stand-out shockers include David Willets (responsible for the coalition’s policy of tripling university tuition fees in England) and Kate Rock, Vice-chairman of the Conservative party, Stuart Polak who heads up the Conservative Friends of Israel lobbying group, and James O’Shaughnessy Managing director of Floreat Education, who is planning to set up a chain of free primary schools in London and of course Michelle Mone, the Tories pet  EBT Queen.

Loyal socialists slipping into the ermine alongside the Red Baron and Comrade Lord John Reid include Peter Hain and Tessa Jowell.

This is a farce.

    Its not a farce, its down right criminal. It only enforces why we need away from this outdated union. We have to keep pushing for Indy then push for a referendum on a republic. The very fact Mone a minute is there on the list should make the Scottish people want to vomit. The whole set up disgusts me

    Might be reading this wrong but Malcolm Bruce was not rejected by Gordon he stood down before the GE. Or, along with most of the other people you mention, I thought he had but perhaps I’m confused about this. I think they would probably have liked him to stay on. As a popular incumbent he might have survived the SNP tidal wave. Certainly if he had not stepped down I suspect Alex Salmond might have gone for another constituency at the GE

    Mr. Bruce along with Mr. Brown saw the very large writing on the wall. Their reputations and political historys were not going to include total defeat by the electorate. Mr. Cameron is behaving in his usual insulting way towards the electorate in Scotland.

    I saw the “impressive” Lord Gould in the Café Royal Edinburgh last night having a beer. Nothing wrong with that except he epitomises the worst of Scottish Labour in his over bloated persona- which resembles the worst excesses of the classic “pig with its nose in a trough”, both figuratively and actually! No reform of this system of patronage is possible other than by its abolition.

    I have no problem with countries having traditions but do strongly object to them inflicting them on others.
    When Scotland was incorporated into greater England,we inherited their feudal system of government,which they are clearly determined to hang onto.
    Scotland was sold for English gold in 1707 and again in 2014….threats to pensions,savings etc and it is clear that money is more important to most Scots than democracy which allows the London establishment free reign with Scottish affairs.

      Yes. I’ve read many pieces of analysis as to why we/YES lost the referendum, many putting the blame on the scaremongering of the NO campaign. But speaking to friends and acquaintances since September, I’ve come to the depressing conclusion that many just put their comfortable personal position before anything else, and voted NO.

        Brian, i also noticed that a lot of my friends and aquaintances took the “im alright the noo road”and voted no.I also know a lot of freemasons who were to man no voters, throw in the orange lodge and most of the sectarian rangers supporters(not all thank goodness)and there you have it,a selfish or indoctrinated or just plain low IQ stupid bunch who are a major stumbling block to the freedom of our nation.There is an awful lot of organised evil out and about in Scotland.

    Incredible how the Establishment seduces the one-time radicals into their orbit. On Wings there’s a photo of a young, hirsute Lord Flipper marching under a banner proclaiming “A Workers’ Republic”, now somewhat delayed by stopping off to grab some ermine and 300 quid a day, before resuming the long march to republicanism. Peter Hain, anti-apartheid campaigner, digger-up of cricket pitches, former radical Liberal now also ensconced in robes trimmed with the fur of the short-tailed weasel. How easily are the revolutionaries corrupted.

    Without another Cromwell, though he was hardly a democrat, I fear the UK parliament is set for another hundred or more years of anti-democratic existence, propped up by an electoral system whereby a few constituencies decide who forms the government and millions of votes count for nothing. And unless Scotland can achieve independence we will be dragged along in the wake of this gigantic farce where only the rich will prosper, as they are doing now, and the vilest, nastiest, mean-minded bunch of criminals will continue to punish the poor and vulnerable.

    I simply cannot understand how anyone with the slightest social conscience can vote Tory.

    Power and patronage is the weapon they have used to neutralize any perceived enemy within. This is how they have destroyed the Labour party by incorporating people who should have known better in to their elite clubs. The SNP will never bow to their power and patronage and this is what perplexes and frightens them. Alistair Darling can rot in hell, he will not be remembered fondly in Scotland.

    I have always been of the mind that the establishment/vested interests are far more clever than many give them credence for,they know greed/the power of money especially for those from shall we say the lower orders,they use this and patronage as the ultimate weapon to undermine they know human nature and all of it,s frailties and use them as a hammer against the most of the populace,greed and all it beholds is all but impossible to defeat,remember in the bible God being offered all that is here on earth if he throws in his lot with he the devil re-plying the immortal words”what does it profit a man if he gaineth the earth but loses his soul” he knew something pity the message is lost on most.

      I agree. We underestimate the Establishment at our peril, and must prepare for more of their dirty tricks come the second IndyRef.

      Their “cleverness” consists of creating an “apartheid” in the UK between the haves and the have-nots, the rich and the poor, the “strivers” and the “skivers”, those in work and those on “benefits”, those in wealthy communities and expensive houses and gated-communities and the rest housed elsewhere at arms length from the rich, those who go to public schools and those in state schools, those who go to Oxbridge and those who go to other institutions (if at all), those inducted into the old-boys club of “top” professions and those who have to work for a living at the “bottom”, those who have “good inherited genes” and the mass of lesser mortals – between the 1% and the rest of us, the 99%.

      It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just that the 1% think they are exceptional and have got where they are because they are uniquely talented and deserve their success and wealth. And they move in a self-congratulatory and self-reinforcing circle of like-minded individuals, shielded from any contradictory voices.

      Their great achievement is to persuade just enough of the 99% to believe their lies so that they get elected (25% of the electorate handed Cameron and his cronies carte blanche) and simultaneously avoid revolution.
