Safer Together, Stronger Together

KatnissA new daily series of ‘postcard’ micro blogs: a random selection of the best of the web in under 250 words.

The Fear Factory
First up the giant figure of a man that is David Mundell rekindles Project Fear with some spectacularly stupid ‘Pooling and Sharing’ rhetoric. ‘Safer Together’ never sounded so stupid.  As Iain Macwhirter points out: “…it was the invasion of Baghdad that started this latest cycle of violence. Is there anyone who still disputes that the Iraq War and its chaotic aftermath are what created the seed bed in which IS incubated?” Being shackled to a rogue state like Britain with its reckless foreign policy is what endangers Scottish citizens, as we might see again in the near future. Meanwhile the Intercept’s Murtaza Hussain reports on how our allies have created  ‘an institutional culture callous to the death of children and other innocents’.

Irony Overload
As the Hunger Games laps-up well-deserved plaudits everywhere, one weirdness stands out. The storyline, of how a megacity is fed by slave labour brought from the surrounding districts in some kind of outlandish dystopian capitalist nightmare is to launch a theme park in Dubai a megacity fed by slave labour brought from the surrounding districts in some kind of outlandish dystopian capitalist nightmare. Calling Katniss?

The Spy Who Loved Me
The Mark Kennedy case has finally come to a conclusion with a heartfelt “We’re sorry” from the Met. Aw, sweet. A different kind of Kochs seem less repentant across the pond.

INTERCEPT’s report by Mutaza Hussein is horrific and the killing of ‘objectives’ ( targets) and the collateral damage described as EKIAs (enemy killed in action), ordinary citizens going about their business, smacks of a nation that has sunk into barbarism. The operatives have descended to the subhuman, referring to the child casualties as ‘fun-sized terrorists’ and the actual strike on children as ‘cutting the grass before it gets too long’. These people have been ‘radicalised’, to use the word we use of Muslims to think of the non-white world as vermin worthy of extermination.
One of the saner drone ‘pilots’ opines that they are creating more terrorists than they are eliminating. Can the suffering in Paris be laid at least partly at the door of the US? The Muslim diaspora in France and Belgium will have been enraged by these drone strikes and the resumption of bombing by the French precipitated the attacks. The French declaration of war and continued bombing probably gave rise to the kidnapping and killing in Mali. Isis and the other terrorist groups do not work in isolation.

Yes, because it is far more complicated than that. Good virtue signalling though.

Mike Small, people have handed over their money to you to write this garbage.

Are you happy? Are you proud?

    1. Quite happy, quite proud, yes. If you could read you’d have noticed that was a quote from Iain Macwhirter. Which bit of his (widely shared) view do you find so difficult to process?

MacWhirter was right. The overkill in Iraq was responsible for the killing of over 100,000, mostly civilians, many of them parents of children who have survived, it is entirely logical that these orphans would grow up bitter, undisciplined bundles of hatred seeking revenge. It is 12 years since the start of the Bush/Blair war and those left parentless at 5-15 will now be 17-27 year-old jihadis in their prime with nothing to lose and death on their mind. Don’t moan about it. If the Russians had done it here, and we lacked the WMD to respond, we would be visiting our vengeance on them in exactly the same way.
