The Holy Show – A Neu! Reekie! special

This Saturday at The Poetry Club, Glasgow

For the last two and a half years I’ve been helping organise a series of leftfield cultural gatherings under the Neu! Reekie! banner.  Neu! Reekie! is usually based in Edinburgh’s Summerhall arts complex although we’ve put our toe in the Glasgow waters a couple of times last year at The Poetry Club in SWG3. The punters who came along seemed to enjoy the mix so we’re back West again, this time for a series of six Neu! Reekie! in Glasgow. Starting this Saturday with The Holy Show.

We’ve got some rare treats lined up as they say. As well as author Kirsty Logan The Holy Show will have an exclusive extract from Alan Bissett‘s new festival show ‘Ban This Filth!’ in which (I’m told) he plays two characters: one of whom is feminist icon Andrea Dworkin. Aye!

We’ll also feature two top notch music acts: Young Fathers, a Scottish via Liberia/Nigeria hip hop group newly signed to cool Los Angeles label Anticon. Also on the bill are Neu! Reekie! ‘supergoup’ Jesus, Baby featuring Davy Henderson on vocals (Fire Engines, Win, Nectarine No 9, Sexual Objects) as well as Carla Easton (singer in Teen Canteen), Roy Moller (from The Store Keys) and Marco Rea (from The Wellgreen).

The show is compered by myself and writer Michael Pedersen.  Doors open at 7pm, The Poetry Club (100 Eastvale Place), on the banks of the River Clyde. Tickets for this introductory show are just £6 online from Brown Paper Tickets (or £7 on the door).  These shows have a nice relaxed seated vibe in a  stunning venue. Mibbe see some of youse there.
