Three to join Bella

As part of major expansion plans for Bella in 2019 we are delighted to announce three new columnists joining us, the very talented writers Layla-Roxanne Hill, Kirsty Strickland and Mairi McFadyen. We’ll be announcing the submissions of the guest editors spaces separately next week.

Mairi McFadyen is a writer and researcher based in Inverness. She was a key organiser of the non-party creative cultural campaign for Scottish independence, National Collective. It’s great to have another writer based beyond the central belt and Mairi will be reporting on highland and rural Scotland (amongst many other things). You can follow her @mjmcfadyen

Kirsty Strickland is a Glasgow-based columnist and commentator who has written for The National, The Herald and the Independent. She won the Write To End Violence Against Women Awards Bursary in 2015 and was one of YWCA’s ’30 Under 30′ list of inspiring women in 2017. Read more about her on her own site here and follow her @KirstyStricklan

Layla-Roxanne Hill is a Director of The Ferret and a writer/artist/activist interested in decolonialism, intersectional feminism and media democracy. She holds positions within the National Union of Journalists and is Chair of the Scottish TUC Black Workers’ Committee. Layla-Roxanne has co-authored a chapter in Accessibility, Inclusion, and Diversity in Critical Events (Routledge) and you can read some of her previous work on Bella here. Follow her at @LRH151

  1. Mr William Fraser says:

We need the National Collective back, they were a positive force for fun and good.

  2. Alf Baird says:

Someone ‘interested in decolonialism’ seems appropriate, considering Scotland’s political status.
