They Want to Take Away your Hamburgers
A selection of some of the jaw-dropping contributions from the American Conservative Union CPAC 2019 event this week, in which Trump spoke for over two hours.
.@RepMarkMeadows begins CPAC with this rip-roarer: “You know, with this Green New Deal, they’re trying to get rid of all the cows. But I’ve got good news — Chick-fil-A stock will go way up because we gonna be eating more chicken!” pic.twitter.com/aoYJm7jHBM

Holy shit — here’s @ScottWalker suggesting some people “take the baby home and kill the baby at home.”
“By the way, it’s not live-birth abortion. It’s not infanticide. It is murder if you take the baby home and kill the baby at home, it’s murder.”
Nobody disagrees with that! pic.twitter.com/w6Q8B6wDrA

Trump on Otto Warmbier: “I’m in such a horrible position, b/c in one way I have to negotiate, in the other way, I love Mr and Mrs Warmbier and I love Otto… I lot of what I do with respect to NK & and success that we hopefully have, we are given no credit.” pic.twitter.com/P4sJTQWJzE

Trump smears Democrats: “They are embracing open borders, socialism, & extreme late-term abortion…lawmakers in NY cheered as they passed legislation to allow babies to be ripped from the womb of their mothers. Right up to the very moment of death… the will execute the baby.” pic.twitter.com/He2coKazul

The trouble with living in an alternative reality (that this bunch of crazies certainly do) is that real reality will one day turn round and bite you in the ass.
If the IQ of the listeners who lap this stuff up as gospel is so low that it leads to their own self-extinction in some fossil-fuel driven neo-liberal immolation, then all for the planet’s good really.
The predicament of course, is how much damage they to other innocents on the way down.
I have a friend in the USA who is a philosophy professor. I emailed him this week & innocently asked whether Michael Cohen’s testimony might lead to impeachment proceedings beginning against Trump, and whether some of Trump’s team might think “Hang on a minute. Cohen & Manafort are going to prison. Perhaps I’d better jump ship now before it happens to me”.
He replied thus:
“If you’re a Trump crony in trouble, you have two choices: a) turn Kings evidence and beg for mercy (Cohen); or stick defiantly with Trump and hope for a pardon (Manafort). But the thing is, while Republican congressman are sticking with Trump politically, that’s just to save their jobs; they aren’t his cronies, and many of them privately despise Trump. Trump will only be impeached if the Republicans in congress decide to abandon him. And they’d only do that if the polls showed that doing so would serve their self-interest. And for the polls to change to that extent, at least 30 to 40 percent of Trump’s base would have to turn against him. And there are absolutely no signs of that happening.
As I’ve said before, the single biggest force in American politics is Fox News. This is the only TV station that the base watch. And it offers 24/7 pro Trump, anti-immigrant, anti-Democrat, anti-environmentalism, anti-anything decent sewage. It’s as if 40 percent of the electorate in Britain were to get their entire world view from The Sun (where The Sun offered nothing else but extreme right wing political commentary).
In your prayers every night you should express thanks for Theresa May and the Tories. They are paragons of intelligence and decency compared to DT and the GOP.”
There. Doesn’t that make you feel better?
