Karine Polwart – Women of the World (Visualiser)

Recorded at Chem 19, Karine Polwart’s Scottish Songbook features Steven Polwart and Inge Thomson, with Graeme Smillie (bass and keys), Calum McIntyre (kit and percussion) and Louis Abbott of Admiral Fallow (vocals, guitar & percussion).

Karine says, “To me, these are songs of resilience and resistance, cries of despair and dreams of something better. They’re pop songs, but also love songs to people and places we all recognise. They totally fill my heart up”.

    Good idea and lovely music!

I presume that the Scottish Songbook is as a result of a concert that took place in August 2018 as part of the Edinburgh International Festival “Light on the Shore” programme of concerts at Leith Theatre. Leith Theatre had lain unused and unloved for almost 30 years and it was wonderful to have the EIF back after all that time and to hear Karine Polwart and others. I recall that she performed other Scottish songs at that concert so is Scottish Songbook 2 a possibility?

Beautiful. Hopefully we get to see Karine Polwart and her band in 2020 in Belgium.
