Saturday Night at The Howff with Pale Fire and Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5

howff /haʊf/. A favourite meeting place or haunt, especially a pub.

Welcome to Saturday night at the Howff, Bella’s lounge for the lockdown. Tonight we feature Scotland’s live favourites and festival legends Colonel Mustard and The Dijon 5, and the return of Lanarkshire band Pale Fire with their first album in 5 years.

Pale Fire

Five years after their acclaimed eponymous debut, Pale Fire return with ‘Husbands’, their brand new album released last week.  Formed in Airdrie and Coatbridge in 2011 by a group of bedroom musicians who had attended school together, Pale Fire make pop music for those people who feel pressure to put away childish things. The music reckons with unfashionable subject matter: the demands of adulthood. It recognises the need to honour your responsibilities while keeping alive your essential self.

Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5

Described as “the shiny disco ball hat wearing, ultimate genre hopping, twisted festival, live stage machine that puts the emphasis on music, entertaining and laughter. We are a party at its most outrageous and ridiculous. Imagine Primal Scream and Happy Mondays had children genetically fused with the DNA of Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, ABBA, James Brown, George Clinton, Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond.” Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 started this year with a sell-out show at Glasgow’s Old Fruit Market. Coronavirus halted what would have, no doubt, been another successful festival season, but you can catch them here in The Howff.

New single, ‘Ted Dancin’, was released 2 weeks ago on Button Up Records. It has been a spectacular success being the highest new entry in the Official Scottish Charts and went in at Number 7 and peaked at Number 4 in the iTunes UK Charts Alternative Songs Top 40

Please do not include Frank Zappa with this stuff! Frank Zappa is so far away from this stuff, sun and back! Not even is the same galaxy!
