Gray Day

There’s a bunch of great content coming out today to launch the inaugural Gray Day (25th February). This is an ambitious and lively attempt to celebrate Scotland’s much-loved, much-missed artist, writer and multi-talented polymath Alasdair Gray who we remembered here.

The Alasdair Gray Archive in collaboration with Neu Reekie explain: “Announcing: A Gray Day Broadcast Featuring: Ali Smith, Ewen Bremner, Gemma Cairney, Yann Martel and more. Gray Day 25th February, 7.30pm Register for free here. Hosted by Neu Reekie, with Canongate & Alasdair Gray Archive (with special thanks to the Òran Mór)”.

“On the 40th anniversary of the publication of Lanark, and first ever Gray Day, join us for an online hour of readings, conversation and music in celebration of Alasdair Gray. There will be special appearances from Ali Smith, Yann Martel, Alan Cumming, Denise Mina, Irvine Welsh, Gemma Cairney, Chitra Ramaswamy, Alex Kapranos, Ewen Bremner, Louise Welsh, Salena Godden, Gavin Mitchell, Bernard MacLaverty, Rodge Glass, The Vaselines’ Eugene Kelly and more!”

In celebration of Alasdair and the 40th anniversary of the publication of Lanark, here are some readings from Dan Fox, Lesley Robertson and Nick Harrington.
