Saturday night at The Howff with Arab Strap, The Countess of Fife and Wojtek The Bear

howff /haʊf/. A favourite meeting place or haunt, especially a pub.

The Howff is Bella’s Boozer, your virtual lounge for the lockdown. Every week we bring you new releases and recommendations for your listening pleasure. This week we bring you tracks from Arab Strap, The Countess of Fife and Wojtek The Bear

The Refugee Benefit Album – Solidarity with Displaced Humans was released by Limbic TV late last year, a triple-CD compilation of bands who played a series of refugee benefit gigs at The Depot in Leith over three years. I missed getting it into the Howff over the holidays at the time so here it is now. The full album and tracks are available at the Bandcamp Page for the album. From the album, we welcome The Countess of Fife with their track Second Fiddle. Find out more about Solidarity With Displaced Humans and support their work on their facebook page HERE

While the good folk at Rock Action will be celebrating their first number one album with Mogwai, Arab Strap have announced the release of their first album for over 15 years. Its the usual dark and delightful dollop of moody music and Aidan Moffat’s often-spoken lyrics. To me, Moffat is a poet, as good as any out there whether he calls himself a poet or not. The album is out this week, can be ordered direct from Rock Action or all good independent record shops.

Released yesterday on Last Night From Glasgow Ferme La Bouche is the first single from Glasgow’s Wojtek The Bear, a classic sound of indy melodies and driven poppy guitars. Their album comes out this summer, you can find out more about the band and support their work HERE
