Bissie is a digital journalism researcher, PhD candidate and lecturer, with academic specialisms in journalism epistemologies, deep audience engagement, and knowledge production practices in pioneer journalism. Prior to academia, she worked in print journalism – as a reporter, international news desk editor, and magazine writer in Bulgaria, and more recently, in digital media production and digital communications in Scotland. She was co-founder of the Hacks/Hackers Scotland chapter (a global collective of journalists and technologists) and co-organiser of MisinfoconX – a local conference dedicated to media literacy and the fight against mis-/dis-information. She guest-edited the Networking Knowledge journal special issue #TogetherApart: Mediatization, (Inter)subjectivity and Sociality at a Time of Pandemic.
