Neil Blain

Neil Blain is Emeritus Professor of Communications at the University of Stirling. As well as publishing on Scottish themes (eg The Media in Scotland, 2008; Scotland’s Referendum and the Media, 2016, both co-edited with David Hutchison), he has published extensively on the politics of monarchy (eg Media, Monarchy and Power, 2003, co-authored with Hugh O’Donnell).

Earlier publications were concerned with sport and identity (eg Sport and National Identity in the European Media, 1993, co-authored with Raymond Boyle and Hugh O’Donnell). Recent publications have included work on the monarchy industry, and the relationship between Scottish literature and film/broadcasting. He has made numerous radio, television and press contributions since the 1980s (including large-scale media commentary internationally on the British monarchy), later also online, and given evidence to various cultural and media inquiries and commissions, including at Westminster and Holyrood.
