"I have remained steadfast to his teaching that the clearest way to see through a culture is to attend to its tools for conversation" Neil Postman on Marshall Mcluhan
Well me old Panda chappie, The Dear Leader says she is your Queen and will remain so after Independence. You’d better practice your courtsey.
Between you and I, though, word is that She doesn’t want that and is planning to sell Balmoral to Alec’s pal Trump prior to The Glorious Day.
I’ll have to get a postal vote for the referendum as I’ll probably still be in Brazil celebrating another World Cup triumph. Doubt I’ll see you there though, yet again.
Anythings possible I suppose, though there seems to be a spot of bother with the the old skipper W.S! Seems he’s a bit of a lad. Still what can you expect for £170 k a week? A bit of kerfuffle in the squad eh? Best of luck, let’s hope it doesn’t go to penalties. Clean sheet for Seaman and all that! Pip pip!
I had a nosey around St Peter’s Seminary about October last year and some RCAHMS guys were taking photos – They told me that they are planning to preserve the main building, but they’re not sure when it’ll start.
Song of the Day comes all the way from Bristol. ‘Picasso Face’ by Velcro Hooks was an instant hit with Team Podcart. Velcro Hooks explode with schizophrenic guitar jangles and audacious hooks. ‘Picasso Face’ has the ability to hit the mainstream hard and still maintain an underground appeal. With a propulsive intensity that is enough to [...]
Q: Which one is the odd one out? 1. The Doors Of Perception. 2. Slavoj Zizek. 3. The X-Factor or 4. The Matrix A: Number 3. The others actually understand their direct lineage back to Plato’s Caves allegory in The Republic. In the animation above Plato’s Caves text is narrated by Orson Welles. In our hesitant new quantum era of scientific uncertainty […]
Amazing to see Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg over in Shetland on the first celebration of Norway's National Day since Utoya. Its really significant that the Premier has made what I think is the first ever formal trip to Shetland...
Another turbophobic myth dispelled When I started this blog fifteen months ago I had no intention of championing Big Wind, an entity very likely to be every bit as self-seeking and environmentally slapdash as Big Oil or Big Nuclear. However, I do feel compelled to devote a few electrons every now and then to refuting some [...]
The fact that race, not rape, has dominated discussion of the Rochdale rape case, says a lot about the state of society today. The event in itself is an abhorrent display of violence against women, but the reaction shows a far more widespread disease affecting society. We live in a rape culture.
Campaign Group ‘For A Better Europe‘ launched today ‘Rushing in to ratify a flawed and out of date Fiscal Treaty will be a mistake resulting in far reaching social and economic costs’ said Siobhán O’ Donoghue spokesperson for the campaign group ‘For A Better Europe‘. She went on to say ‘legally we have been told it is [...] […]
Opinion by Graham Ennis Scottish independence: Vote Yes to leave the Titanic I was impressed by the recent Scottish Times article, about the UK staring at the bleak future of a Lehman Brothers economic collapse. A collapse, it seems, where the entire UK state would sink like the Titanic....and of course, there simply would not be enough lifeboats for t […]
Limestone Road, north Belfast, calls to mind novelist Robert McLiam Wilson’s description of his native city as a place in which ‘the stories are jumbled and jangled. The narratives meet’. During Belfast’s early twentieth century heyday, Limestone Road was an … Continue reading →
I am no longer tethered to Scotland so, a simple question,
What ever happened to the upturned Toblerone RC Church on Maryhill Road on the way to Bearsden?
The Toblerone was demolished about ten years ago and a new church built in its place. I think the Gillespie Kidd Coia parochial house is still there.
Thanks
A vision of post-independence Scotland.
Away an pit yer heid doon the cludgie where it can meet up wae her aspirations
Do at least try to speak the Queen’s English, now there’s a good chap.
Not my Queen. old Bean
Seems to be a reality of current tied to London Scotland.

Springburn Town Hall and the Winter Gardens too – it’s disgraceful that they’ve been left to moulder.
