In Bruges

Last week delegations from civic groups campaigning for independence across Europe met to establish a network of stateless nations and discuss potential for  common working.

The Scottish Independence Convention, Welcome Mr. President … to the State of Catalonia and the Flemish group Vlaamse Volksbeweging each sent delegations to Bruges to discuss the formation of a partnership of European movement for independence.

On the first day the delegation met with a number of the Vlaamse Volksbeweging in Overijse to discuss the current situation in Belgium and Brussels.

Followed by the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie (New Flemish Alliance) leaders, including Jan Jambon (Senate floor leader), within the Belgium Chamber of representatives and then an audience with the president of the Flemish parliament, Jan Peumans.

The plan is to bring together all the movements for independence and create a common narrative for change. Participants were brought together by the common idea that the sovereignty of the people is a fundamental idea of democracy that goes beyond the state.

Bella C will be keeping you up to date as the network emerges and plans are announced.
