Terminally bored by the perennial national anthem debate. It’s Flower of Scotland, get over it. Here’s the wonderful Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five play…

Fabulous. Was he by any chance related to Little Richard or any of the other guys who used to make real music?

Great stuff, and a bit of nostalgia, I’d forgotten about that. Though I always found the words a bit curious, to say the least. Applying them to CalEdonia, on the other hand, you can come up with a metaphor or two I should think.
And wait a bit – who says the anthem has to be FOS FFS?

It’s the English that need a new national anthem! I suggest ‘ leaning on a lam-post. . . . in case a certain little lady comes by’, given their fawning attachment to their queen.

I’ve just looked him up. Louis Jordan was the grandfather of rock’n’roll and a huge influence on Bill Haley, Chick Berry, Lloyd Price, Jackie Wilson, Larry Williams etc, etc etc. Can’t get better than that. More weeks at No 1 in the Us R&B charts than anybody else (Stevie Wonder is runner up). I’ll now have to play “Caldonia” on my Rock’n’Roll show on AIRScotland (internet radio).

I love FOS but national anthem, no way. It’s got to be Scots Wha Hae (but played as quick march not a waltz) or, if not, The Freedom Come A’ Ye (melody “The Bloody Fields of Flanders” written by a Dunoon man Pipe Major John McLellan DCM) or A Man’s a Man..

  5. Dave McEwan Hill says:

Chuck Berry, of course. Chick Berry was his wee sister. As a matter of interest Louis Jordan was responsible for widely introducing the word “chick” as a description of an attractive young lady

  6. Great, I am also fed up with that particular debate.
Here is another nice one while we are at it…

This is just by way of an alternative
