Sweet Dreams are Made of This … Who Am I to Disagree?

Annie Lennox says Yes …

“I think Scotland could take a stand in a wonderful way, ecologically and morally and ethically. Scotland could stand for something in the way that Norway has done historically. We could say, this will be a country which is a nuclear-free zone and this will be a country which will tackle the issues like the depletion of the environment around the coastline, for example, and our fishing stocks are so depleted now we are going to have a no-take zone; this type of thing. I would love to see those things, the visionary things, in Scotland.”

“Scotland could have some kind of new, ethical, visionary stance and it could take on some fresh ideas. That could be amazing, really amazing.

“If you think about the issues of the planet, it could be so sweetly represented in a small country like Scotland, in terms of the environment, in terms of trying to tackle issues of inner-city violence, of drug problems, these things.

“All the issues that contemporary society has today, Scotland could be a beautiful example of a way forward, if it was open and not too reactionary – just to say ‘no we are not going to have genetically-modified crops, we are not going to have that’ – I could see that as a blueprint for something.”

  2. I wonder if she will come out in support of independence,or just hold her own council?

      Er, that’s the point

She already has and more than welcome too. I am genuinely puzzled by forward looking Scots who say they must stick to the Status Quo, they really must let themselves be exposed to the true facts of the situation, they should not be blinded by some kind of heart-strings tug. The 90 minute patriots are even more confused as they proudly wear their colours and have tattoos swearing undying love for Scotland, then go back home to mummy when confronted with the choice to stand up for their own country. What are these folk all about?

    Yes.

  5. Yes, but sorry Annie knows nothing about fishing…. stocks are so high in some species (cod and hake) that legal dumping is at a catastrophic high. wont bore you all here with why….

    1. Andy says:

Nonsense. Cod is in big trouble.

An the CFP is to be reviewed, ending the quota – dumping system.

The North Sea fishery buys the UK its rebate with the EU. Incidentally Luxemburg has more say on this fishery than Scotland does.

I thougt Annie came out in favour of Independence way back in 2008?
But it’s great to hear and remind everyone.
Heard her being interviewed by David Henderson (March 2012) on BBC Scotland He asked her what she thought of the idea of an Independent Scotland, suggesting to Annie that it was comparable to navel gazing compared to fighting Aids in Africa http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17423186
