iPoster Competition Winner

Tonight we are announcing the winner of our national poster competition at Hemma Bar, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, from 7-9 pm. All welcome.
The artists come from Glasgow, Mull, St Andrews, Dundee, Kinghorn, Orkney, Edinburgh, London and elsewhere. They are professional artists and amateurs working in different styles and forms bringing different interpretations to the task.
The judging panel included: Elaine C Smith, visual artists: Janie Nicoll, Craig Coulthard and Calum Colvin, plus Murdo Macdonald (Prof of Scottish Art at Dundee University) and cultural commentator, Joyce McMillan.
Elaine C Smith said today:
“I’ve been really uplifted by the work of all the artists who have taken part in this competition- great, intelligent, funny, well crafted and full of ideas – exactly what has been unleashed throughout this campaign. A great representation of enthusiasm, talent and politics – well done to Bella and the SIC for putting the idea together and for making sure that creativity is at the heart of the Yes movement.”
The winner will be announced tonight and all the top twenty on show for one night only. The winner will have their poster distributed throughout the whole of Scotland and win £1000. Copies of the winning poster will be available to take away.
I think they are all terrific in artistic and creative terms. But some are more suited to the campaign message and the campaign at this stage than others and only one can win.
£1000 does not seem like much of a reward for all that effort and I hope that some effort can be made to reward all the artists for instance by making the designs available as art posters or cards for sale with proceeds going to the artists.

Yeah, come on, £1000 is a good award. And it is absolutely deserved, whoever wins; they were all fantastic, creative posters. But I like your idea of making all the posters available for general purchase. Is there a chance of that, Bella?
Certainly, we are making them all available – our intention was always that all of the images should flood the internet and reflect the creativity of the movement. That’s why we’ve made them available at print quality size, with some exceptions where the individual artists was selling prints for their own income. If you do use the images please credit the artist. Thanks.
