Another Country
The stream of cultural outpourings brought on by the referendum has turned into a torrent. We can’t keep up, so apologies if yours isn’t amongst this semi-random handful. We’ll just grab a group and throw them out there as we can. First up, the amazing Fraser Croall who came third in our poster competition but whose images have made this fantastic animation…
Or you could sit back and enjoy Alan Bissett’s The Pure, The Dead & The Brilliant performed at the Assembly Rooms during the 2014 Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, right here. Or hop over to our pls at the National Collective and tune in to Jim Monaghan’s poems ‘Undiscovered Country’ here instead.
Or crank it up with the Barrastinian – headphones on for his Mixcloud offerings here below (and previously here) …

In complete contrast comes Simon Chadwick asks ‘Are you out for Yes?’ with his Lament for the Union. “Hot political tunes from 300 years ago”.
Or, if medieval harp music isn’t your thing, try some of Greg Moodie’s cartoons now available (for a snip) in one handy book, right here.
The banksters are attacking the pound to frighten people. Say something about that!
And there is an actual book by John Herdman called ANOTHER COUNTRY, about nationalism and independence campaigning in the 1960s and 1970s, it is exceptionally good.
The Herald said: “Herdman is to be congratulated on bringing illumination to a period in our history when it seemed we were stuck in limbo. Like many of us he is fearful that culture, which once dominated the national (and nationalist) agenda, has been commodified to a deleterious extent. He is also, like many of us, saddened that when someone of Alasdair Gray’s stature dares to speak out he is subjected to a barrage of ignorant abuse while the issue he attempted to address is overlooked.”
I have been offering the Lament for the Union CD for half price at “Yes” events, so in that spirit if you order from here, drop me an email and I’ll sort out a 50% refund afterwards…
