Children of Austerity

Child poverty is on the increase in Britain. Schools are being forced to hand out essential supplies to pupils. This is 2018. Here Peter S Goodman, the European economics correspondent for the New York Times paints a devastating picture of austerity Britain: “austerity’s manifestations are palpable and omnipresent. It has refashioned British society, making it less like the rest of Western Europe, with its generous social safety nets and egalitarian ethos, and more like the United States, where millions lack health care and job loss can set off a precipitous plunge in fortunes.”

And this short doc explores the realities of years of austerity in Britain today which has forced millions of kids into poverty. Teachers regularly report having to feed and clothe their pupils instead of teach. redfish reports from the worst hit areas.  This is a world where one percent of the worlds people are going to own sixty-six per cent of the worlds wealth…

And what is bizarre is tjat people voted for this.

Austerity, the placing of ever greater numbers into poverty, the removal of social protection, it was all voted for

And there is a longer way to go yet. Sweat shop Britain on the edge of Europe we still have a way to go where in the US around 20% of the population have no access to health care.

Of course in the US, like it is here with fuel poverty, the lack of gas electricity or healthcare is a lifestyle choice. If you don’t pay don’t expect service. It’s simples.

But at least we in the UK are a world power armed with nuclear submarines and two yet to be commissioned aircraft carriers.

Poor and proud its a lifestyle choice and we made it.

Off to eat cake now. SNP baad, very baad, whilst Roof very good

We own an Island with six people on it!
And we give £10m to Rwanda!
And in 25 years ( maybe) we will all be £4100 a year better off!
Did we vote for any if it?
      Nope!

You will be all right Jamsie, the Scotland in union will be keeping you in the life you are accustomed! Only you could try and twist that article. You really are a Wally

Ireland a singles persons dole is over €200 a week paid in cash and rent allowance, Goggle up food banks Dublin city of near 1 million , result 3. The dole is a pittance in the UK

This has been a long time coming. One of the reasons I voted for Scottish independence was that the Indyref seemed to me to offer a straight choice: Be more like Northern Europe or be more like America.

How can some folk not see this?
