Generalist Lee

Poet Iona Lee is next up in our Creative Scotland series (see previous Lorna Miller and Shaun Milne). Lee is a poet, visual artist and performer who stormed the spoken word scene when she was seventeen and, in 2016, won the title of Scottish Slam Champion.

Lyrical svengali Michael Pedersen has described her poetry as “spells that captivate with fierce charm”, James T Harding of Stewed Books has called her “the freckles on the face of a one night stand” and Jenny Lindsay of Flint & Pitch calls her “one of the most exciting young poets to come through the Scottish spoken word poetry scene in the last five years.”

Here she is with George Bruce performing ‘Away With the Fairies’, a poem based on the Scottish folk tale Tam Lin, at Bootleggers Bar – Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016:

She has a pamphlet just out with Polygon, part of their New Poets series and sings in a band called Acolyte, see them perform “Solitude” at Sofar Edinburgh from May 2018:
