Another August turned to embers. September is bittersweet. But have you ventured outside in the last few days? Because it seems that summer 2023 is enjoying something of a swan song.

I am in London, where everywhere is a heady mix of car exhaust and cannabis, Hampstead Heath is overrun with little groups of happy people eating strawberries in the sun, and every speaker emanates appropriately seasonal anthems – the elegies of summer.

I have compiled a playlist of my top 20 go-to summer tunes, that I feel reflect the sweltering heat and the heaviness of heart as the golden hour draws to a close. Go on, let the light in, before it’s too late.
