I first met Allan during the days of the Poll Tax. I think over the years Allan went through all the campaigns in Edinburgh and Scotland that happened. If you went on a demonstration or stood on a picket line or took part in a sit in Allan was always one of those faces you could relly on seeing. There were many meetings and many campaigns and you knew Allan would always make a contribution.Ok I didn’t always support his position but I was always glad to hear what he had to say.For instance I remember a debate with the Radical Independence Campaign and Allan debated with Neil Davidson on what Socialist position we should have over the Brexit debate.I sided with Neil in supporting the leave campaign but was still impressed with Allan’s debating powers. In Later years I would go and see Allan speak on his book launch of The Ghost of James Connolly.Like Neil Davidson we would lose both comrades too early.I’m sure he would be raging at Gaza,Trump and Starmer were he alive today.
