Supporting Independent Media in Troubled Times

I’m not sure when, in my lifetime or yours, hasn’t been ‘troubled times’? The 1980s of mass unemployment and Cold War? The 1990s under John Major’s government, riddled with corruption and scandal, or the Blair years, blighted by the debacle of the Iraq War? The austerity governments of David Cameron and George Osborne, or the shambles of the Theresa May / Boris Johnson era? The Brexit debacle or the astonishing developments across the pond?

Still, as you look across the world at the unfolding carnage and mayhem and at rapidly declining living standards in Britain, with grotesque levels of social inequality, it’s undeniable that we are living in the darkest timeline. The government’s own analysis of its cuts to disability concludes that they will drive 250,000 people – including 50,000 children – into poverty.

One constant throughout is the power of the billionaire press and the right-wing media who distort news through the lens of privilege and power.

We believe unashamedly we need a pro-independence, left-wing, ecologically-focused media more than ever. We have one week left to hit our target of £20,000 to go towards improving and expanding our content, working with more writers and illustrators, and doing more audio content (interviews and podcasts).
