  1. John Muir says:

I was there. It was a fine March day for a march through our fine capital. Thrumming turnout, good spirits, all corners of the Indy movement represented, from SNP and Greens to Pensioners for Yes to Scottish Socialist Youth and Salvo. Palestine flags, trans flags, Catalan flags but above all saltires. Tens of thousands of them blowing in the sunny wind, every one with a supporter underneath and many a whole family.

It was the best I’ve seen since the heyday of the AUOB marches before the pandemic. And topping off at Calton Hill was fantastic for the atmosphere. Seemed to get the speakers fired up, too. Ross Greer was good and I’ve never seen John Swinney with anything like that passion before. Show it to everyone, not just us, but the nation!

Had a handful of good conversations in the crowd, myself. Everyone’s anxious. The world’s in a restless, parlous state right now, completely changed since 2014. We know we’re going to win this election, as Yessers, but will we win independence from this final mandate before we’re plunged into far right doom the 2029 UK election has in store for us? I wasn’t alive in the 1970s to know, but there above the Royal High School, still empty after Scotland voted Yes in 1979 but was denied, and the cairn, you could feel it on the restless wind.

Do or die. Scots or doom. It’s on us, now.

Thanks for the injection of hope and optimism.

2014 to 2026….feeling Better Together? As Brian Cox said; Freedom FFS!
