It seems to be the case. On various on line sites splenetic and feast unionists are posting lines from the Project Fear handbook for 2014 – too wee, no very good, subsidised by English taxpayers, hard border with customs posts, etc.
Sorry, not ‘feast’, but ‘feart’. Autocorrect is not genetically programmed to deal with Scots.
I say this as a lifelong supporter of Scottish Independence. No the result has not reignited the debate about Scottish Independence as pursuing a second referendum was made contingent on the SNP winning an (very unlikely) majority in the election. The SNP have therefore no mandate to ask for another referendum and I suspect that position suits them just fine.
I would hope so but I hae ma doots.
JS has lost credibility by now going to ask for a Section 30 when he clearly stated “ if we get an SNP majority”. If he hadn’t said that,
we would be in a much more flexible situation to explore all other angles. Whilst the Scottish Greens are in play, I have the feeling they are not as believable as they were last time round?
As previously suggested, we MUST properly address the three blind spots from previous administrations. Currency, Borders and Pensions. The drift towards the EU is also disappointing. Creating our own currency, which is essential, is the way to go and this will be allowed if we apply to EU much further down the line.
We will be able to use that facility to pay our way and develop the policies we want. Yes, it is MMT but a controlled usage of it. For the doubters, please regularly read Professor Richard Murdoch and William Thomson.
Why is the ‘drift towards the EU disappointing’ ?
In 2016 the electorate in Scotland voted by nearly 2:1 to remain in UK and from polling I have read the figure in favour of joining EU has if anything grown since then as the financial harm of Brexit has become apparent.
The ability of Scottish electorate to be able to decide to join EU would e a significant factor in persuading people to vote for independence in any subsequent referendum.
A independent Scotland will be relatively small country with a much larger and potentially hostile neighbour. The benefits of belonging to the EU when dealing with Westminster were demonstrated by Ireland during Brexit.
The EU was hurt by UK leaving and Scotland leaving UK and joining EU would be a significant policy for EU. I therefore think the EU would be very accommodating to Scotland joining.
While Scotland wouldn’t be able to join EU immediately after independence any incoming government should initiate negotiations as soon as possible with any agreement being put to the Scottish electorate for ratification.
I was talking to an SNP party member about Swinney’s statement about needing an SNP majority in order to have a mandate for demaning a vote on independence.
This party member felt it was simply a piece of promotion by Swinney, aimed at SNP supporters, to motivate them to turn out and vote SNP in the greatest numbers possible.
A similar tactic to those charity emails we all get: “Only 24 hours left to save the……………….”.
If this is true then Swinney will be delighted with the ‘almost got there’ result. Not sure where that leaves those of us who actually want independence in our lifetimes though.
Stupid joke about Wales having an independent nuclear weapon, considering:

otherwise mostly Captain Obvious. If this is the typical standard of political commentary humans produce, surely AI can do consistently better. It’s 95% ephemeral filler.
A presenter who doesn’t know the name of the party he is talking about – and apparently disparaging – is not doing his job well. Fair discussion but the bias is, as always, annoying.
No, it doesn’t. It ignites debate about the maximum price of bimbo bread in Costcutter.
And therefore the price of wheat in Scotland. I doubt it wound affect the price of the soy bean flour bread bulker, but it could affect the amount of soy bean flour in bimbo bread in Scotland.
