As The National you need to educate your readers about Data Centers do. The lead activist is Association to Protect Rural Scotland and you should be talking to Kat Jones their Chief Executive.
Very disappointed of the minimal discussion you gave to the podcast. I live 5 miles from one data center in Coldstream which is the sixe 90 + football fields.
You should be educating your readers about the huge pitfalls.
Amazingly there is not an automatic referral to an Environmental Impact Assessment. This must become computer.

Agreed, essential that factual information is publicised. US experience of these sites would be useful

AI is tech bubble as we have have seen with dot,com and before that internet introduction

Then there is the power consumption and heat effect of the air conditioning. Water colling for the air conditioning is high, and if air conditioning fails a fire is likely.

Does not need many people to run it. A large site would be 20 or about 7:per shift.

Eventually expensive to remove and restore the land. And because of bubble may be redundant and not used.

Should be located on brown field sites not agricultural land.

These data centres are unsustainable. The whole planet is currently running in water deficit. We are draining aquifers and using more water than can be replaced.
Why would any sane species use the water they need to survive on AI data centres which are 100% not necessary?
Delighted to hear SNP against them. Outbreak of sanity in Holyrood.
