Allan Armstrong was a socialist, a supporter of Scottish independence and a contributor to Bella. He passed away last year [Tribute to Allan Armstrong – Bella Caledonia].
His enormous library of more than 8,000 books is being sold at the start of August on a pay-what-you-can basis to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Ideally, all of them have to go.

The Edinburgh MAP team have said:
You are invited to a unique fundraising event this summer – one that combines a love of learning with practical solidarity.
Two years after the death of Allan Armstrong, a lifelong socialist and passionate reader, his family have donated his extraordinary personal library to MAP. Allan’s collection is vast – around 8000 books spanning Politics, History, Travel, Railways, and countless other subjects.
On 1st and 2nd August, this remarkable library will be offered for sale at 3 St Peter’s Buildings, Gilmore Place EH3 9PG 11am- 6pm, with all proceeds going directly to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
This is a rare chance to explore a lifetime’s worth of thoughtful reading, acquire books you’ll treasure, and support MAP’s work at a time when it is urgently needed. Please come along – and please share the invitation widely with friends, colleagues and fellow readers.
Thank so very, very much indeed for publicising this! Allan was a very dear friend and comrade. May he rest in power.
