Graeme Purves

Graeme Purves is a planner and environmentalist. He was Research Assistant to the SNP Parliamentary Group at Westminster between 1977 and 1979. Between 1981 and 1984 he was a member of the Editorial Board of the political magazine Radical Scotland. In 1988 he was awarded a Ph.D. for his thesis on the Scottish planner and architect, Frank Mears. Between 1995 and 1998 he was a Director of the environmental charity, Reforesting Scotland. For 26 years he worked as a planner with the Scottish Government, where he led the development of Scotland’s National Planning Framework and was active in developing collaborative links between the Celtic and Baltic countries. He is a Director of the Sir Patrick Geddes Memorial Trust and a member of the Scottish Advisory Committee of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. He is currently advising the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee of the National Assembly for Wales on the Welsh Government’s draft National Development Framework.
