Jim Sillars has been a Labour MP at Westminster before establishing the Scottish Labour Party to advance a radical home rule politics in the 1970s and post-1979 joined the SNP. He was elected SNP MP for Glasgow Govan in 1988 and became Deputy Leader of the party. He has written a number of books: two autobiographies: Scotland: The Case for Optimism (1986) and A Difference of Opinion: My Political Journey (2021) and two books on the case of independence including In Place of Fear II (2014).
