It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back

jackEngland will run out at Hampden Park representing ‘Britain’ in 2012. What a depressing end to Gordon Browns dreadful attempt to stoke up Britpop-New Labour and the Imperial End Game at the fag-end of Blighty. Thatcher, Blair and now Brown are the haggard smokers outside the pub still heaving away at the last fag of British identity. This is the last shameful wheezzie gasp, achievable only by the self-colonisation and collusion of the Scottish Football Association.

In a hilarious expose of English media ignorance the Guardian in this report has this team running out at Wembley, not Hampden. If that was true it would almost be forgiveable. As it is, it’s a hilarious metaphor for  a failed construct: we pay for another nation to ‘represent’ us in our own city at our own cost in a hapless effort to fix the un-fixable conundrum that is contemporary British identity. It’s a genuiney shameful phenomenon for which the SFA should be disbanded immediately.

To recap , the London Olympics, which is draining Scottish sports and community funds will hold a game of football in Glasgow with an all-English team against the wishes of the vast majority of Scottish, Irish and Welsh fans and despite the fact that the FIFA openly stated it would undermine the authority of individual nations. While taxpayers’ money is being poured into the athletes’ village, communities across the rest of the country are paying the price with reduced or collapsed lottery money being diverted to the spiralling vanity project cloaked under the myth of  ‘regeneration’.

It’s yet another betrayal by Gordon Smith, a Rangers Brit Unionist who has continually turned a blind eye to Rangers sectarianism. The SFA has admitted it held secret talks with its counterparts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland after being asked by FIFA, the world governing body for football, to “find a common solution” to the formation of a combined team for the 2012 Games.

The Association of Tartan Army Clubs plans to call a meeting in Newcastle next month of all “real football fans” from the home nations in an effort to block any team playing under the Team GB banner. Spokesman Tam Ferry said: “We are shocked and disgusted with this U-turn and apparent endorsement of a Team GB.”

If this isnt an inspiration for independence I don’t now what it is. As one poster put it:  “The next Conservative UK government will be imposed on Scotland by an English majority. A GB football team will will be imposed on Scotland by an all English first eleven. Do you get it Scotland ? Are you at long last starting to see how this works ?”

It’s clearly the work of desperate opportunism between Tory Seb Coe and the hopeless failed British Project of another GB. Scottish commentator and Rangers fan Graham Spiers wrote: “The calls yesterday for the head of Gordon Smith, chief executive of the SFA, over the whole debacle, sounded absurd. The SNP MSP, Christine Grahame, who chairs the Scottish Parliament’s health and sport committee, and who has hollered for Smith’s head, evidently doesn’t know what she is talking about. ”

Except, well, she knows exactly what she’s talking about  Graham.

As Spiers himself reported its generally accepted that the move could be disastrous for Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Christine Graham is quite right about Gordon Smith.

“In 2007, he told the BBC he had no problem with a GB football team being fielded in the Olympics.

“It now looks like his personal opinion has become SFA policy, despite overwhelming opposition from Scotland fans and players.

“He should now do the only honourable thing left to him and resign – and if he doesn’t go voluntarily he should be forced to quit.”

Tory Coe has said right from the start: ‘”We are committed to a GB football team. I have said it before: There will be a GB football team.” In fact Christine Graham is quite right. Coe and Co decided this along time ago, September 2008 to be precise, when he said the BOA, which selects teams for the Games, has decided to press ahead with a football squad despite the opposition. When asked last night about the opposition from the Welsh and Scots, Coe replied bluntly: “Fuck em!”The English team will doubtless be managed by another Scotsman to be incorporated into the British Establishment, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Now – with Labour in meltdown and England run by the Tories we face the hilarious prospect of a boycott of Scotland at Hampden, but more promisingly an England team running out to Hampden in an independent Scotland.

The Olympics is great for London but the idea that its is good for Scotland or Northern England or the other nations is just laughable. Its been revealed that only 1.2 per cent of the companies that have been awarded contracts by the Olympic Delivery Authority are based in Scotland, it has been revealed. But that hardly matters next to the sham of an England team running out at Hampden representing the failed state of Britain.

The police won’t let the Tartan army anywhere near Hampden. They’ll kettle them as the London bobbies did at the G2o.
I thought it was ok as long as the SFA didn’t allow Scots players to take part in a team GB.
I can see it would have been better, rather than sanctioning an English Team GB, if the SFA had said nothing at all on the issue.
