Remembering Pollok Free State

This is part of research for a book I’m working on about how Scotland changed between 1950-2000. I’m going to be sharing bits of the research as I go along and incorporating peoples feedback, memories and thoughts.

“Pollok Free State: an organisation protesting against the building of the M77 motorway through public woodlands in Pollok in 1995. This motorway development would cut through one of Europe’s largest inner city public commons. The rights of local people to determine the use and development of public space were also an issue. It was part of a bigger ‘No M77’ protest across Glasgow that included many groups, including Earth First! and Glasgow For People, and attracted support internationally.”

a great place to deposit any historical material relating to the Pollok Free State would be the Spirit of Revolt Archive, have a look and see what you think. It would get the material all in the one place and have it recorded for the public at large to learn from. annarky.
