Not so long ago, such a video would have been sneered at openly by many in Scotland. I know some who will continue to do so, but they often do it in private or more circumspectly, like pretending they are making a joke.

I’ve been looking for a video game which effectively uses Gaelic (I’m not a speaker), so I was interested to find out that Bard’s Tale IV (latest in a venerable series) is one such rare example. Checking out reviews on game platform Steam, it seems that it may not be for everyone (some say it is puzzle-heavy, some that it still has bugs or serious hardware requirements), but there appears to be agreement that great voice acting and haunting music are among its positive attributes. Which can only help.

Maybe this is happening already for all I know, but one business venture which could work in both Ireland and Scotland would be to set up “Gaelic Guaranteed” holiday tours. The initial groundwork required would obviously be to collate itinerary lists of service-providers who would have sufficient employees fluent in Gaelic (one might often cope). This would variously include hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, mini-coach “heritage-patter” drivers, local tourist venues etc. Gaelic-root placename recognition and explanation could be ongoing between practically any two given locations in Scotland — and of course even more self-evidently in Ireland.
