The Howff is Open

howff /haʊf/. A favourite meeting place or haunt, especially a pub.

Welcome to the Howff, Bella’s boozer for the cultural void and your lounge for the lockdown. We are featuring and promoting artists and musicians who are now gigless cos of da virus. As everyone tries to move live events online and survive the domestic incarceration. Each night we feature a different artist and put up a bunch of other stuff. It’s very eclectic. Sorry/not sorry.

Listen and watch previous nights here and here featuring Glasgow band Randolp’s Leap, poets Iona Lee and Jim Monaghan, Iona Fyfe, and Alec Finlay’s jam-packed C019 Creative Toolkit.

Tonight we have a special trio of mixes from JD Switch (Optimo), some beautifully put together Tranquil tunes to help you keep the heid in a stressful time. Listen to them all here.

We also have a brand new Groove On radio slot from Stewart Bremner for you over here.

Tonight’s Bonus: check out Chemikal Underground’s 2020 Compilation here … which includes tunes from Scott Hutchison and Emma Pollock, Aerogramme, Mogwai, Malcolm Middleton, Kathryn Joseph and RM Hubbert, De Rosa, James Yorkston, King Creosote, Sluts of Trust and loads more …

Tonight’s featured artist is Hamish Napier, a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Take a listen –  and buy his three albums: The Woods, The River and The Railway.
