Douglas Murray, Associate Editor of the Spectator
The particularly toxic nature of Douglas Murray (still Associate Editor of the Spectator) has come to people’s attention recently. This is largely to do with this widely circulated interview clip from Murray again, first published in November 2023 in which he muses that “if the army will not be sent in then the public will have to sort this out themselves and it’ll be very brutal“:
He was on our radar for some time before this. In November 2023 (‘When Propaganda Fails: on Poppy Sellers, Rioters and Douglas Murray’s Fever Dream‘) we called him out for calling Humza Yousaf ‘The First Minister of Gaza’ – presumably for calling for a ceasefire – and the racist slur that he has ‘infiltrated out system’:
Of course Murray is not alone at the Spectator which has a long history of publishing and sheltering its raft of far-right columnists.
But Murray’s profile and reach has become far wider in recent weeks as the violence in Gaza continues and his particularly virulent form of Islamophobia goes unchecked.
But the Spectator has long been a safe-house for the far-right, routinely and loyally defended by each other, immune to criticism and with no editorial threshold of common decency or humanity. Here’s the oleaginous Fraser Nelson coming to his colleague’s defence – and in which he just sidesteps all of the accusations against Murray and turns it into an argument about Twitter.
But as Inayat Bunglawala has put it:
“Douglas Murray has consistently been an anti-Muslim bigot. If he had said these things about Jews he would have been instantly ostracised. That he is lauded by you and much of our media elite (Murdoch, Andrew Neil etc) says much about how entrenched anti-Muslim bigotry is.”
No amount of equivocation or distortion or excuses by his colleagues and employers will take-away from his own words:
The racism in society is systemic but it is also shared and amplified by people in powerful positions like Andrew Neil and Douglas Murray. Murray should be sacked for his racism.
On the contrary, anti-Semitism is unfortunately entrenched in our society.
What a truly evil malevolent piece of humanity. Was he dropped on his head in his youth? Was he deprived of love and affection to turn out this way? We seem to be moving to a replay of the 30’s, with a return of the ‘Blackshirts’ and there a number of people who could readily reprise the role played by Mosley. Remember the approach in the East End of London – ‘they shall not pass’ WE need to revisit – ‘Nae Pasaran’
Bill
Dougie is spot on. There has been too much bull, and he calls it like it is.
There is a war on the West, nut now people are waking up to it.
The “controlled-spontaneity” set-piece reaction by government and the Socialist Worker Party’s other identity – “Stand Up to Racism” and their Marxist Allies “Hope not Hate” was predictable, has been spotted by the general public. Should the leader of “Hoax not Hate” be charged with incitement given his admission on the hoax 100 “Far-right” marches was a hoax, and that the Far-right had thrown acid in Asian women’s faces claim was a lie? The thing is the two tier police/CPS may need to be shamed into having to do it.
As for the media etc trying to pin the riots on Nigel Farage. What a crude insult to the people of Britain.
The latest Westminster poll:
LAB: 33% (-6) (Marxist Government)
RFM: 21% (+5) (Newbies and establishment scapegoats)
CON: 20% (=) (Last cultural left-wing government)
LDM: 11% (=) ( More Marxist than liberal)
GRN: 8% (-1) (Even bigger Marxists)
SNP: 3% (+1) (Scottish Marxists)
Poll taken August 7-8th, compared with July 11-12th.
I think we won’t have to wait until 2029 before the next general election.
LAB: 33% (-6) (Marxist Government)
SNP: 3% (+1) (Scottish Marxists)
: )
Brilliant!
@SteveH, who’s Mark?
Stevie H(Marxist- far right) – completely pissed off because the racist thugs (egged on by public school racists Murray, Farage, Fox etc) got outnumbered and chased off the streets by the peaceful, decent majority (sorry Marxists according to Stevie!).To make matters worse the police thanked the peaceful, decent majority (Marxists) for helping counter the racists!
No doubt Stevie thinks the Police are Marxist like the majority of Britain.
Dear oh dear as the Marxist King Charles might say.
Well said John
what a sad pathetic plonker steveh, have ironed your blackshirt ready for the “Uprising”yet? a typical chanty rassler full of his usual ranting of merde, more to be pitied than laughed at.Such a sad person.
StevieH,
Douglas Murray is an upstanding member of your despised ‘graduate elites’ having attended both Eton and Oxford (you can’t get more elitist) Make your mind up!
Does the first clip feature Douglas Murray throwing shade on the British Empire for invading Australia? It isn’t clear if Murray is going on to recommend that Australians descended from British colonists should have their passports taken away before being deported. Or is it too late, and Australia is being held up as a kind of worst-case scenario of what happens when illegal immigrants take over your country? OMG “They have defaced and defiled all our holy places” for sure!

Or just, y’know,

I’m not sure why my comments are not submitting, but I watched the second clip and I find it disturbing that Murray is the least dishonest about British crimes in it, compared to Walker and Bastani. This is not a good video to make the necessary points against Murray’s positions.
I listened to part of the video and felt my anger rising. What a vile individual. We welcome people to our country and they bring with them a wealth of skills and culture. If Douglas Murray and his ilk don’t like it, perhaps they should leave the country. Goodbye and good riddance! Refugees are welcome here!
Well said Jim
@Jim Ritchie, but that’s the point. British colonialists did leave their country, they did (among other things) invade, settle and commit various genocides in Australia, and a lot of them stayed there. Murray, in slimy kind of way, references this obliquely in the first video clip.
Now, suppose that British imperial education has conditioned the likes of Murray to remove empathy for others, and instil an outgoing form of extremely violent British racism. They embrace its evil, not deny or ignore or downplay it like Walker and Bastani who obediently trot out the British establishment’s designated villains (Nazis, typically). So Murray (possibly) believes that Others would like to invade Britain and do what the British did to their ancestors, possibly an Eye-for-an-Eye lex talionis conception (empirically false, few except the French, Norse and Romans have been known mount plans for invading Britain AFAIK, but one myth that persisted through the ‘Cold War’ too):

So Murray and his ilk live in terror of the evil they celebrate doing unto Others being visited in their lifetimes by Others onto them. It’s what I call #karmaphobia
The Wheel Turns. Their fascist-like British imperial conditioning (you’re either for us or against us) is also the (unofficial) NATO motto. Everyone is as morally degenerate as them, in their damaged minds. I suppose they’re too weak and cowardly to openly acknowledge British crimes in case it hastens retribution, but at least they know enough about their own history to make that judgement. I find Walker and Bastani’s apparently ignorance (or complicity) all the more disturbing.
