Women in Revolt!

7 Demands – from the See Red Women’s Workshop

Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK, touring from Tate Britain, spans the era from 1970 – 1990. It’s on at the Museum of Modern Art 2  in Edinburgh until the 26th January 2025.

Women in Revolt! showcases painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, film and photography alongside archival materials – with many artworks on display as part of this tour for the first time since the 1970s. The exhibition includes works referencing sexual content, miscarriage, violence, self-harm, explicit and racist language.

Bride and Groom – Penny Slinger

The exhibition has some Scottish specific content (it was created as a collaboration between Tate Britain, the National Galleries of Scotland and The Whitworth, The University of Manchester) but it’s main focus is the social movements of the Women’s Liberation Movement, maternal and domestic experiences, radical childcare, issues of sex and sexuality, Punk and independent music, Greenham Common and the peace movement, the visibility of Black and South Asian women artists, Section 28 and the AIDS epidemic.

There’s a podcast with Curator Linsey Young that follows the exhibition here:
