Beyond Silo Culture
The rise of hard-right populism is due in no small part to disinformation and online algorithms which drive people into herd-like groupthink where post-truth politics thrives and lies and propaganda flourishes. Independent media can be an antidote to that.
The writer and theatre critic Joyce McMillan has called Bella a “vital forum for debate about Scotland’s past, present and possible futures” and we’ll take that – but we need your support to thrive and develop towards building a site that can do this to the best of our ability.
At the moment as we publish this we have 188 supporters who have donated £6, 614 towards our target of £20,000. That’s an amazing support, but it also means many thousands of people who read Bella for free.
We are supported only by our readers. We don’t have corporate backers and we don’t take advertising, so we rely entirely on your support. Please give whatever you can.

I could only consider donating if there was a serious and engaging discussion about a credible process to be employed that will end the Union.
Endless talk over the last 10 years about ‘visions’ and how bad the Union is for Scotland hasn’t advanced Scotland’s Cause one iota. It won’t in the next 10 and more years either.
Hi Duncanio – we will be engaging in serious discussion exploring all of the credible processes to end the Union. But we can’t make that happen. We are an online magazine. Support us if you want independent Scottish media. Many people complain about the media in Scotland but don’t support the alternative.
