Easter Rising
The sun is out and the days are getting longer. A huge thank you to everyone who supported our crowd fund campaign which ended with an amazing £19,280 from 467 supporters, hitting 96% of our target. If you’re one of those people with mild OCD who finds that figure strangely irritating, you can always donate – still – here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/backing-bella-caledonia-2025
Work now starts to send out the books, cards, badges and other stuff to everyone who donated, as well as organising writing workshops and upgrading our social media profile to work better (ie getting someone other than me to do it). Details to follow. But also the work that we promised in terms of upgrading the website – we’ll be immediately updating the share functions to include Blue Sky and Mastodon and ditch Reddit and Tumblr (Tumblr!).
There’s a few other changes coming to the site. But here’s the things we won’t be changing:
our commitment to Scottish independence, that will now be given a dedicated channel on the site and a new series exploring pathways, challenges, new strategies and projects that are about to be announced, as the movement does a re-boot. All approaches and strategies will be considered and given a fair airing – and all critiqued. Our commitment to tell the truth about the climate catastrophe and also explore the responses and solutions (yes, solutions!) that exist, remains the same. Our commitment to reporting direct from Palestine and the resistance, direct action and boycott movement here and abroad, alongside other liberation struggles, continues. Our regular opinion and analysis of UK politics will continue alongside international news and opinion. Our commitment to celebrating Gaelic and championing Scots will continue along with contemporary arts, culture and book reviews.
Some new stuff…
Our commitment to new writing, with essays, short-fiction/short stories published and be given their own slot. A regular music feature. More news on events, radical publishing, small press & zines. A new feature on Holyrood legislation and changes that can be made within the devolution settlement (Here and Now).
While so much else is going to heck, Bella just keeps getting better–and the bar for that is not a low one! Congrats to all, and wishing you the help you desire.
Thanks Daniel!
Great to be part of this and so good to “break” away from MSM. I accidentally watched BBC Scotland- apologies, I won’t do it again
