Abla Cadabra
Ash Regan, the Alba Party’s only member in the Scottish Parliament, has resigned immediately citing concerns over the party’s direction, leaving Alba without Holyrood representation ahead of the 2026 elections. The former SNP leadership contender defected to Alba two years ago. She plans to run as an independent and concentrate on passing the Prostitution (Offences and Support) (Scotland) Bill.

She issued a statement saying: “With my Unbuyable Bill entering a crucial stage, it’s clear that I can best focus on those goals as an independent MSP.”
“I am grateful to the many Alba members and campaigners who have supported me, particularly the women who have stood with me for years.”
Regan added: “Public office is a privilege, not a possession. My full focus now is on building cross-party support to pass Unbuyable into law before the end of this parliamentary session.”
The Alba Party issued a statement saying something or other.
And so, as if by magic, the announcement reduced the Alba party’s representatives to none at all after Kenny MacAskill and Neale Hanvey both lost their seats at last year’s General Election.

The Edinburgh Eastern constituency MSP was widely ridiculed when she seemed to get confused about … och you just read it …

Some commentators fear that this may mean the end of the IRT (Independence Readiness Thermometer). Psephologists have put the likelihood of Regan being elected as an independent MSP at “between nothing and zero percent.” The odds are considerably higher for Regan and her special advisor Chris McEleny joining Reform UK.

The relevance of Alba to Scotland in 2025 is reflected in the number of comments to this article.
60% said it would be either “definitely legitimate” or “probably legitimate” for independence to be pursued if pro-independence parties secure over 50% of the vote.
That’s plural. like the membership of the SNP the direction of this site seems to have cut the nose to spite the face. Well done, not.
60% of who said what, and what does that even mean?
This is an unnecessary and unkind article. Why bother to write it? It’s just negativity and there’s already more than enough of that to go around. Itcranks alongside me writing an article on how crap East Stirling are – and I’m a Hamilton supporter. You’re better than this.
