Why do you like Yachts?

The extent to which the Holyrood elections would involve a more plural/disrupted set of parties has been curtailed by the Alba party’s implosion into endless schism, and Your Party Scotland’s being ghosted by its own comrades down south. No Scotland No Party, as they say.

Of course there is the option to back the Worker’s Party (Scotland) and Gorgeous George’s latest volte face – he’s now pro-independence (honest guv), or the ISP, or Continuity Alba, or the Committee to Liberate Scotland, or the Scottish Liberation Committee Party.

Of course one new party to Holyrood will be Reform UK, led by the remarkable Malcom Offord. We’ve covered before how the Unionist press will, as they see their preferred options of Labour and the Tories disintegrate, move their allegiance to a party with the most far-right policies you have seen in your lifetime, without a second thought.

So we were pleased to see Martin Geissler site down with the newly installed Scottish chief to ask some hard-hitting questions. We imagined Geissler would be asking such obvious questions as (these just off the top of my head):

What did he think of the party’s plans for mass deportations, modelled on the US government’s ICE group?

Did he agree with his party’s stated aim of creating detention camps?

How did he defend his recent claim that “We should roll out the red carpet for Donald Trump” in light of  …. *insert your own abomination* here?

What did he think of the fact that it’s been revealed that Nigel Farage has sold videos in which he endorsed a neo-Nazi event, repeated extremist slogans and supported a man convicted over his involvement in a far-right riot? [Newly unearthed Nigel Farage videos reveal support for rioter, neo-Nazi event and far-right slogans]

How did he defend the McDoge idea he trumped up (pun intended) to slash all quangos, which should be “abolished until we work out the ones we need” in response to how he’d find £2bn worth of cuts he’s promising in a bid to cut tax. (There are 23k Scots employed in the sector – h/t Gina Davidson).

Or about corruption, (his or Nathan Gills). He donated almost £150,000 to the Tories. Then they put him in the House of Lords for life. Now he dares to lecture the people of Scotland about referendums.

But Martin Geissler didn’t ask any of these questions; he asked him about eating pies, and Why do you like Yachts?

mass detention Yachts, 23k Scots employed in the pies sector – h/t Gina Davidson; wow!

  2. John Monro says:

Amazing, I hope he asked what sort of yacht he sailed – ketch, sloop, yawl, schooner – there are just so many types that the public, moored as they are to credit cards and mortgages, would be so interested to learn about. But the pie question is excellent: let them eat pies, wasn’t that a certain Frenchwoman? Worth the exploration surely, Mike? Cheers. Keep up the good work.

  3. SleepingDog says:

There is, of course, only one justification for yachts:

  4. Graeme Purves says:

There is surely scope for a BBC Scotland Investigates documentary on Malcolm Offord, Peter Murrell, and their shared enthusiasm for Jaguars.

  5. John says:

Between asking Offord about his yacht and the almost daily updates on ferries BBC Scotland seem obsessed about seafaring boats!
