Jon Stewart & AOC Take On Trump’s Comeback and Rebuilding the Democratic Party
As people reel from taking on board the consequences of a second Trump regime, we’ll be sharing discussion as it emerges of possible responses and analysis. This is interesting, though still seems caught in a narrative of ‘if only the Democratic Paty were better’, which seems, at this time, where we are, to say the least, inadequate.
And why do both have the Stars and Stripes in their rooms?
Because they are Americans who don’t want to cede the flag, the identity and the American audience to the far right in the way that the British have ceded the English flag, identity and audience to the far right.
When AOC talks about I guess both parties of Business prioritising Order (aka Business as Usual) over Justice, it reminded me of the Jedi vowing to keep the peace and the Empire promising to maintain order. The difference seems overall largely one of style, although likely of vital interest to certain groups and individuals, yet the rich seem to be insulated from harm either way, and corruption goes customarily unchecked.
Seniority, a population drenched in propaganda, a completely rigged system where Congresspeople get richer off insider trading, misrepresentation of laws and the erosion of constitutional rights, nepotism, oligarchy, disingenuous USAmerican views on social class, insane healthcare, gerrymandering and the rise of safe seats in Congress… a useful conversation from a political science viewpoint; in terms of political philosophy (systems change), not so much. I could wish Jon Stewart didn’t interrupt and talk over AOC so much.
But where was foreign policy apart from jokes about ‘America’ (sic) wearing Canada for a hat? The environment? Nonhuman lifeforms? Pollution? Religious extremism? The unsustainability of the USAmerican Way of Life? Genocide? Economic warfare? Global polycrisis?
