Fearless Cities

We are delighted to announce that the Fearless Cities summit will be coming to the UK for the first time. It will take place in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, from 1-3 November.

Fearless Cities summits are at the heart of the ‘municipalist’ movement to bring about change at the local level by reclaiming the commons, feminising politics and reimagining democracy. They are places where we can share ideas and practices that build the structures for a better, more caring and democratic society for all. We look forward to continuing this exchange of ideas and practices in Sheffield. To make that happen, we invite you to shape the programme with us!

First held in Barcelona in 2017, Fearless Cities summits have since been hosted by cities around the world, including Warsaw, Belgrade, New York, Brussels, Rosario (Argentina) and Valparaíso (Chile).

This year’s summit in Sheffield is called Reimagining Our Commons Through Neighbourhoods Of Care. It will bring together place-based initiatives from across the region with a trans-local network of community organisers, campaigners, politicians, grassroots movements, civil society organisations and those working in local and regional institutions from across the world.

With this open call, we invite your contributions to the sessions. We welcome proposals connecting to any of the summit themes:

– Neighbourhoods of Care
– Municipalist Futures
– Rethinking Governance and Local Democracy
– Reimagining our Commons

but also outside these themes

The deadline for submitting events is 29th August, 2024 – you can find more details in the form.

And of course, regardless of whether you want to submit a proposal – save the date, and we look forward to meeting you in Sheffield 1-3 November,

Steve and the rest of the organising team – WeAreOpus, Citizen Network and Research for Action.
