Big Indy Night In

As we hurtle towards a strange Christmas Voices for Scotland has organised a big event at the end of this strangest of years.

There’s a great line-up for Saturday’s Big Indy Night In with performers like Karine Polwart, Carla J Easton, Hue & Cry, Ricky Ross, James Robertson, Joseph Malik, Jackie Kay, Kirstin Innes, Elaine C Smith and many more.

There’s a panel discussion on Scottish culture in an independent country at 4.00 with Alan Bissett, Ruth Wishart, Arusa Qureshi and Joseph Malik and another one with Lesley Riddoch, Joyce McMillan, Gerry Hassan and me at 5.15 pm on the subject of  ‘the independence movement and the Scotland we want to be’.

For the full line-up and to get hour tickets go here.

Sounds like a cracking line-up. As well as the better-kent names, I can recommend Carla J Easton’s music.

  2. MacNaughton says:

No offence, but I’d rather stick my heid in the gas oven than watch you lot go on again for the gazillionth time about Scottish independence….

    1. MacNaughton says:

And I hope that at least somebody on this Indy Night will have the courage to recognize that the SNP govt has made a terrible, terrible mistake in not passing May’s deal in exchange for indie ref 2, a mistake we will bitterly live to regret, and not just in Scotland…..

I write this as the Royal Navy deploy four ships to protect UK fishing waters from, eh, European trawlers, fishermen armed with nets and fishing tackle…

      1. MacNaughton says:

…And bait obviously, those devious European fishermen who have the cheek to encroach upon British sovereignty will have stockpiled huge supplies of sprats, tiddlers and minnows which, all together, constitute a serious threat to the national interest, especially the fishy bit…

What are you going to talk about at this Indy night? The stable door which is swinging on its hinges, or the cloud of dust which is the horse that bolted?

Sometimes being overly cautious is recklessness itself, and that pretty much sums up Sturgeon’s lawyerly reckless cautious SNP. ..

        1. MacNaughton says:

Long and short, see you all in 2034 for indie ref 2 – oh wait a minute, I’ll probably be dead by then, but notwithstanding…

…in any case, not for Christmas given that we euro Scots have just been told we won’t be allowed back into Europe if we were thinking about going back to see an ageing and poorly relative at home who might well be on their last round of figgy pudding this yuletide….

Which prompt the words “dirty fckn Tory scum,, I hate them, I hate them, I truly fckn hate them…” to issue forth from my lips…don’t ask me why….

  3. Marcas Mac an Tuairneir says:

There appear to be no Gaelic-speaking voices included? Why is this? Don’t we matter?

    1. Josef Ó Luain says:

Clearly not, Marcus. That’s why you’ll have gate-crash the proceedings, making sure to invite McNaughton, along.

      1. Josef Ó Luain says:

        My sincere apologies, Marcas.

  4. seonaidh says:

    Why no Gaelic?
