New Writing New Media
It’s been a long-standing argument on Bella that the media is dominated by a handful of publications and columnists who all say the same thing and nurture a crushingly narrow bandwidth of thinking. We’ve been committed to broadening and deepening the pool of writers and creators to create a more vibrant diverse Scottish media for years.
To that end we’ve published the following people in the past year:
Danica Priest American Billionaires Behind Efforts to Strip Nature Protections
Simon Murray A Laird for our Times: Questions of Philanthropy and Community in the Scottish Highlands
John Quin Parallel lines? Lessons from the nightmare of history
Gemma Clark Attack, Smear, Gaslight: The Playbook for Bringing Down Feminist Politicians
Julie Cupples Nicaragua: A Revolution Betrayed
Hassan Elbiali Britain’s Iran War Is Not Scotland’s War
Joe McCann Black Fathers
Natalie Tweedie Dreaming and Scheming in Post-War Scotland: The allure of Brutal Scotland
Gill Ryan Scotland’s Anti-Fascist Tory MP: Lessons from the Past for the Present?
Janie Nicoll The Sum of Parts
Nuzhat Uthmani Israel’s Death Penalty Law and the Collapse of International Protection for Children
Patrick Woodside No Borders, No Vetting and Nick Candy
Cathy Allen The Bleak Rack that is Black Rock, Edinburgh and Everywhere
Douglas Chalmers People Power can shake Establishments: The potential of by-elections through the years
Kat Jones AI, the NPF4 and the Climate Crisis
Stephen McAll Axing Scottish Music Programming
Andrew Eaton-Lewis Arts Crisis in the Hebrides
Tracy Patrick The Parallel Universe of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
Eilidh Douglas Is fheàrr Gàidhlig bhriste na Gàidhlig anns a’ chiste!
Carla J Easton Since Yesterday: Nothing Has Changed
Khutso Dunbar Black History Month: Reclaim the Saltire, diversity is our strength!
If we are successful in raising the funds to carry on we’ll remain committed to expanding the range of voices being heard in the Scottish media.
